Depression 2009: What would it look like?

Some dork named Drake Bennett at Boston.com wrote an article on what Depression 2009 will look like. The people at Boston.com think it will look like this:

Someone watching TV over a spare room in a garage.

This entire article is out of touch with reality.

What TV will you be watching if you can’t pay your electricity and your cable bill?

I say it will look more like this:

  1. Hey Joan!

How'd you manage to film my town? My street even?

I thought the snow was giving you a hard travel time. Amazing that you popped over and got a pic. Next time stay and have some of that "sushi" or whatever it is that the zombies seem to leave behind themselves...

As for the coming depression ... GOOD!

    Let it all fall apart!

    Withhold your taxes!

    Woe unto the bankers! Repent!

  3. Craig,

I flew over your street in a dark rabid nightmare. Unfortunately every street will look like this as panic sets in and we begin to eat our own.

Why do media outlets like the Boston Globe feel they should downplay the situation? "Don't think, keep watching TV" is the dominant echo only because that's what people WANT to hear. Most people want to tune in and tune out. Give the people what they want.

I think the Boston.com ploy is a surreptitious reminder to make sure your TV is equipped to make it through the Greatest Depression of 2009! Don't miss it on your nearest TV scream.

Pretty soon there will be no difference between a zombie movie and the news, with commercials for Soylent Yellow, Soylent Red, and the newest product, Soylent Green. ...

Yup, "They Live" and "They Lie"!

    P.S.
Mark this one as paranoid as the day is long.

  4. I remember when zombies would just shamble along slow enough for good ol'boys to take potshots at them (Romero's "Dawn of the Dead"). They obviously don't make 'em like that anymore! :-)
